The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Lung Vascular Research brings together multidisciplinary basic science and clinical science oriented groups. The research program focuses on lung vascular remodelling and will uncover underlying molecular pathways, identify distinct targets for vasodilatory and reverse-remodelling therapy, foster drug development based on these targets, and test these new treatment options in proof-of-concept trials. This setting provides the unique opportunity for a direct transfer of knowledge stemming from the discovery of new signalling pathways into preclinical and clinical studies: “from molecules to patients and back“.
Thematic areas addressed in the LBI for Lung Vascular Research are:
- Molecular and pharmacologic strategies for reverse remodelling of the pulmonary circulation
- Non-invasive assessment of the pulmonary circulation
- Establishment of a comprehensive clinical database
