Awards for LBI Researches 2nd half of 2016

The Annual Meeting of the Austrian Society of Pneumology, which took place from the 6th till 8th of October, 2016 in Vienna, was a particularly successful event for our institute. Five of our employees were honored with scientific awards during the social evening at the Hofburg in Vienna:

The prestigious Michael Neumann Memorial Award was divided this year and assigned to two outstanding scientific papers.

Vasile FORIS received the award for his work on CD133 + cells in pulmonary hypertension published in the European Respiratory Journal. He investigated circulating mononuclear cells and their subpopulations in the blood of patients with pulmonary hypertension.

Chandran NAGARAJ received the Michael Neumann Memorial Prize 2016 for a work, which was also published in the European Respiratory Journal, dealing with docosahexaenoic acid, a polyunsaturated fatty acid belonging to the class of omega-3 fatty acids.

Katharina JANDL received the 2nd ÖGP Poster Prize for basic research for a study in which she was able to show, that the basal membrane composition differs in different forms of pulmonary hypertension, which are characterized by vascular remodeling and deposition of extracellular matrix proteins, such as collagen.

Bence NAGY received the first ÖGP poster prize for basic research for his poster on “Kyrunenin is a predictive metabolite for pulmonary hypertension”.

Researcher of the Year

As a researcher of the year 2016, Grazyna Kwapiszewska-Marsh was honored for her scientific work at a ceremony at the Medical University of Graz.
