She discussed with us the topic “Leveraging epigenetics to understand human genetic variation”.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Uhlig, Dean of the Facuty of Medicine, RWTH Aachen and Board Member of the University Hospital Aachen (UKA) had his lecture about “Mechanisms of pulmonary vascular permeability: the link between prostaglandin E2 and TRPC6 receptors” on March 16th, 2016 in our institute. We very much enjoyed the shared time in the LBI for Lung Vascular Research as well as in the Division of Pulmonology of the LKH Graz and the lively discussions.  

Prof. Dr. Ghazwan Butrous from the School of Pharmacy, University of Kent and the Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute, Canterbury, UK was with us on March 15th, 2016. His talk was entitled: “The role of infection and inflammation on PVD”.

It was a great pleasure for us to have Dr. Matthias Brock, Klinik für Pneumologie, Universitätsspital Zürich as a guest on February 22nd, 2016 in our institute. His lecture about “A new sight on gene regulation: noncoding RNAs in pulmonary diseases“ found a very positive echo. 

We could welcome Prof. Dr. Gerald Höfler, Medical University Graz, in the LBI-LVR on January 26th, 2016. He talked about “The role of metabolic lipases in cancer development and progression”.

2015

On 11th November 2015, Dr. Gabriele Grunig New York University School of Medicine, Tuxedo, US gave a presentation in the LBI seminar room detailing her most recent work. Her research interests include asthma, air pollution and pulmonary hypertension.

PD Dr. Frank Zauke, University Köln, had a lecture entitled “The role of thrombospondins in collagen homeostasis – implications for fibrotic diseases”  in our institute on 30th June 2015.

Prof. Peter Holzer, Medical University Graz, talked about  “Gut-brain communication driven by microbiota” on 23rd June 2015. The participants very much enjoyed the scientific discussion.

Prof. Andreas Günther, UKGM Giessen, Germany visited our institute on 5th May 2015 in order to give his lecture entitled “Alveolar Epithelial Injury, Repair and Regeneration in Lung Fibrosis”.

Prof. Norbert Voelkel, Faculty Molecular Biology and Genetics at the Virginia Commonwealth University, US participated in our LBI LVR seminar series as an invited speaker. Topic of his lecture: “The landscape and spectrum of severe PAH and the implications for therapy”. Young scientists had the opportunity to join the lecture and discuss the topic with Prof. Voelkel in our LBI seminar room on 17th March 2015.

Prof. Dr. Oliver Eickelberg, the Director of the Institute of Lung Biology and Disease (iLBD) at the Helmholtz Center Munich, Germany had a talk entitled “A personal journey of science and medicine” on 10th March 2015 as a guest of our institute. This event was a co-operation of the Medical Studies and the PhD Programmes of the MUG.

Dr. Andrea Steinbicker of the Medical Faculty Münster, Germany visited our institute on 13th January 2015 in order to give her lecture about “Iron homeostasis in pulmonary hypertension”.

Dr. Christine Veith and Dr. Friederike Weisel of the Universities of Giessen and Marburg Lung Center, Giessen, Germany visited our institute on 13th December 2013. Dr. Christine Veith had a lecture about “Hypoxia- or PDGF-BB-dependent paxillin tyrosine phosphorylation in pulmonary hypertension is reversed by HIF-1alpha depletion or imatinib treatment” and Dr. Friederike Christine Weisel about “Impact of AMD-1 on vascular remodeling in hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension”.

Prof. Jason X.-J- Yuan is currently professor in the Department of Medicine and Pharmacology at the University of Illinois in Chicago, US. He also operates as director of two programs at the University of Illinois in Chicago: the pulmonary hypertension translational research program of the Institute for Personalized Respiratory Medicine and the program in pulmonary vascular disease and right heart function in the Center for Cardiovascular Research. Jason Yuans research focus comprises the pathogenic mechanisms of pulmonary hypertension as well as the cellular mechanisms of hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction. He is an expert in electrophysiology of ion channels in smooth muscle and endothelial cells and in calcium signaling and regulation. On 4th June 2013, we were able to welcome him in our institute. He held a talk about “The pathogenic mechanisms of pulmonary arterial hypertension: role of CaSR and TRPC”.

Dr. Jochen WilhelmUniversity Giessen Lung Center, Giessen, Germany, visited us in order to give a statistical course in the beginning of June 2013.

Prof. Dr. Robert VoswinckelUKGM, Giessen, Germany, visited us on May 2nd, 2013. The title of his talk was: “The who is who of pulmonary fibroblasts – dissecting their role in development and disease”.

Dr. Christoph TabelingCharité – University Berlin, Germany, visited us on April 17th, 2013 and gave a talk about: “Th2 inflammation and autoantibodies – possible contribution to the pathogenesis of pulmonary arterial hypertension”.

Prof. Norbert Weissmann, ECCPS, Giessen, Germany had his talk on April 15th, 2013: “Mechanisms of ischemia-reperfusion induced lung injury – NAPDH oxidases and TRP channels”.

MD PhD Anton Vonk Noordegraaf is professor in the Division of Pulmonary Sciences at the Vrije University Amsterdam, a tertiary referral centre for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in the Netherlands. He visited our institute on 11th and 12th March, 2013 and held a talk with the title “Right ventricular dysfunction in pulmonary hypertension”. His colleague, Dr. Harm Jan Bogaard, talked about “Molecular mechanisms of right ventricular dysfunction”.

Prof. Christoph Becker-PaulyInstitute of Biochemistry, Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel, Germany had a talk about “It’s make or break: metalloproteases in collagen assembly and angiogenesis” on 4th February, 2013 in our institute.

2012

PD Dr. Johnson Thorsten, Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, Germany held his talk “Dual-energy computed tomography” in October 2012.

Dr. Jochen Wilhelm, University Giessen Lung Center, Giessen, Germany, visited us in order to give a statistical course in July 2012.

Prof. Norbert Weissmann, ECCPS, Giessen, Germany had his talk in June 2012: “Inhibition of iNOS reverses tobacco smoke-induced lung emphysema and pulmonary hypertension in mice”.

Prof. Zoltán Néda, Dr. Ferenc Járai-Szabó and Dr. Susana Sárközi from the Department of PhysicsBabes-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania visited our institute between the 11th and 20th of June, 2012. Prof. Zoltán Néda gave a lecture about: “The unexpected rhytm”.

Dr. László Czirják is Professor of Rheumatology and Medicine and Head of the Department of Immunology and Rheumatology of the University of Pécs, Hungary. Together with his colleagues, Dr. András Komócsi and Dr. Réka Faludi, he had talks in our institute on June 1st, 2012. Prof. László Czirják talked about “Epidemiology and different manifestation of collagenoses”, Dr. András Komócsi about “Cardiac and pulmonary-vascular participation of scleroderma” and Dr. Réka Faludi about “Diastolic dysfunction in scleroderma patients.”

Dr. Gabriele Grunig is assistant professor in the New York University School of Medicine in New York, US. She visited our institute from February 29th to March 2nd, 2012 and had a talk about “Inflammatory response in pulmonary arterial remodelling.”

Prof. Martin Witzenrath is Professor in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Respiratory Medicine at the Charité – University Berlin, Germany. He held a talked titled “Th2 inflammation in mice: a suitable model for PAH?” in January 2012.

2011

Dr. Ferenc Jarai-Szabo from the Department of PhysicsBabes-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania visited our institute from November 18th until 27th, 2011.

Prof. Dr. med. Ludger Fink from the Institute for Pathology and Cytology at the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen visited our institute on August 8th, 2011 to give a lecture: “Pathology and morphology of pulmonary hypertension.”

Dr. István Krizbai, Attila Gergely Végh and Csilla Fazakas from the Institute of Biophysics, Biological Research Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Szeged, Hungary visited our institute from March 20th until 26th, 2011 (Dr. Krizbai) or March 13th until April 8th, 2011 (Dr. Vegh and Fazakas) respectively. They gave lectures about brain endothelial research. Csilla Fazakas had an official lecture: “Mechanisms of the interaction between melanoma and cerebral endothelial cells.”
