46. ÖGP Annual conference
There are more and more patients suffering from pulmonary hypertension. Around one per cent of people suffer from it, and ten per cent of older people with concomitant diseases. These research results were presented at the annual conference of the Society of Pneumology (ÖGP) in Salzburg at the weekend.
Co-author Gabor Kovacs emphasised the importance of early detection of this life-threatening disease if left untreated. Recent studies have shown that even moderately elevated pulmonary arterial pressure is associated with increased mortality.
